HIL testing of propulsion system for LNG tankers successfully demonstrated
HIL testing of a propulsion control system for LNG tankers has been demonstrated
by Marine Cybernetics and ABB in a pilot project.
In this pilot project, Marine Cybernetics has developed a HIL simulator and a test program for
testing and verification of propulsion control systems, both according to the DNV Standard for
Certification of HIL testing. ABB Marine has contributed with development support and developed
a dedicated OPC HIL interface, rendering their propulsion control systems CyberSea HIL compliant.
The pilot project extends the CyberSea technology platform to cover HIL testing of
Propulsion and Thruster control systems in addition to DP and Power Management Systems.
HIL technology enables broader, deeper and earlier testing of control systems, resulting in
reduced time for commissioning at yard, reduced time for sea trials, and reduced risk for
incidents and downtime at sea.
